Leadership & Integrity

Tom spent more than five years as Executive Vice President, following three years as Senior Vice President, for Barton Malow Company, a $1.6 billion construction services firm with 1,500 employees. He was one of three members of the team leading the firm, which achieved tremendous results including record accomplishments in safety and profitability. He was Chairman of the company's profitable insurance affiliate. He completed in 2009 a successful year as Chairman of the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA), a 4,000-member association. He previously served as President of the 700-member Eastern District of Michigan Chapter of the Federal Bar Association.

Tom learned the importance of integrity from his parents. His father, Honorable James M. Porter, is a retired judge from the Ohio Court of Appeals and the Court of Common Pleas. Before joining the bench, Judge Porter was one of the lead partners in a major national law firm and a founding director of a successful professional liability insurance company. Tom's passion for integrity has been manifested in his professional life in several ways. He prosecuted civil fraud cases for the US Justice Department. At the Dykema law firm and again at Barton Malow, he had significant experience with establishing and assuring the effectiveness of the ethics and compliance programs.
